A summer trip around the hudson valley

Summer is the time for swimming, eating juicy fruits, meals outside, long days and hot nights.

Summer is the time for road trips and New York’s Hudson Valley is the perfect place to do all of the above. We might be coming up on the end of warmer months, but there’s still plenty of time to take in all that the area has to offer!

We began fermenting at New York’s oldest biodynamic farm over 20 years ago (check out more below!); we’ve since moved to the town of Hudson but are delighted to continue calling the Hudson Valley home. Rich in history, culture, food, and agriculture, you can find some of the best places to spend a long weekend or a day trip here in the Hudson Valley. Below are a few of our favorites - while you’re out, see if you can spot some of our ferments in the wild. There’s nothing that fuels a long car ride quite like a forkful of crunchy, bright cabbage, veggies and spices.

Bread Alone Bakery: Woodstock, Rhinebeck, Boiceville

With cafe’s in Woodstock, Rhinebeck and Boiceville, Bread Alone Bakery is known for their quality, values and, of course, their bread and pastries. They are a family-owned and values-driven company, priding themselves on their commitment to sustainability, equity, and quality. Their purpose is to serve honest food, create prosperity for our people, and minimize further harm to the planet. We’re partial to their Roasted Pork Sandwich which features our Curtido, but make sure to pick up a few loaves for home (and a couple sweet treats won’t hurt, either).

Pound Ridge Organics: Pound Ridge

Pound Ridge Organics is a farm market, CSA, teaching kitchen and outdoor classroom all in one. Stop by for the incredible fresh food at their market, to pick up your CSA order or and to take a class on bee-keeping!

Greenville drive-in

We can’t imagine anything better than watching a movie on the big-screen eating a hot dog topped with our Original Sauerkraut or Kimchi. The Greenville Drive-In plays family-favorites and modern classics all while you can relax in your car under the Northern Catskills sky!

capital region welcome center

Make a pit stop at the Capital Region Welcome Center in Hannacroix to celebrate all things New York State. Pro tip: pick up a jar of our ferments (and a fork) for when those salty cravings hit during your ride - yes, we’re talking straight out of the jar. Healthier than a bag of chips all with the same crunch.

Hawthorne valley farm store

Where it all began! Visit Hawthorne Valley Farm to stock up on goodies at the Farm Store, enjoy a coffee outside or say hello to the cows at the farm. It’s truly a magical place to relax and take in the scenery of the Hudson Valley.
